Bernie and I have both been selected for the New Zealand team to compete in the Triathlon World Championships this year!
We are not elite athletes of course, but once a year there is a huge event (in a different country each year) where elites and age-groupers from around the world rub shoulders and compete on the same course!
The reason we have worked so hard to get into this in our first season in triathlon is because the event is taking place on the Gold Coast, just across the pond in Australia. http://www.worldtriathlongoldcoast.com/
It is in September - just a few days before we fly to the UK for the mother of all holiday's!! So, no more boozing 'till Britain!!
Bernie was selected for the Standard or Olympic distance (1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run) and me for the Sprint distance (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run). The events mirror ourselves - the Olympic is long and lovely, the Sprint is fast and frantic!!
